General Manager

Large Automation Company is seeking a General Manager for their Johannesburg Branch.

 

We are currently seeking a General Manager to join our client’s team and ensure the growth and stability of the business. You will also be required to proactively plan and implement strategic initiatives to ensure acceptable Return on Investment and to drive the organisation and to achieve the objectives set out in the business and strategic plans.
Key areas of responsibility will include:

Strategic Planning

  • To ensure the long-term profitability of all Branches.
  • Formulate a strategic plan for the Company.
  • Set objectives for all key staff.
  • Set parameters for budgeting purposes, check, and approve individual budgets.
  • Monitor performance against plans.

·Sales and Marketing

  • Improve Customer satisfaction.
  • To establish sound customer relations and sales strategies
  • Develop Sales and Marketing Strategies for the Company in conjunction with Managers.
  • Ensure that Managers and distributors have a clear understanding of the sales expectations.
  • Identify new markets and provide guidelines on how these should be penetrated.
  • Visit key customers to establish healthy relationships and ensure good customer service.
  • Co-ordinate market information and formulate sales plans for the Company.
  • Monitor individual sales performance throughout the Company and its distributors.
  • Make decisions on pricing levels to penetrate existing and new markets.
  • Maintain stable working networks with international suppliers and local customers.

Financial Control

  • To ensure sound financial controls
  • Set the parameters for annual budgets (sales, expenses, assets)
  • Analyse MFS and monitor progress on a monthly basis and take corrective action where required.
  • Approve CAPEX within the approved framework.
  • Make decisions in respect of purchases from approved creditors (Internal and External)

Asset Management

  • To ensure sound asset management
  • Responsible for the maintenance and safety of all company assets
  • Monitor depreciation against pre-set parameters.
  • Monitor stock levels and WIP against budget.
  • Initiate stock disposals where necessary within App framework
  • Monitor debtors’ days against budget in conjunction with Financial Manager
  • Make final decisions in respect of large outstanding debtors within approvals framework.
  • Monitor the cash flow position of the Company.

Human Resource Management

  • To ensure conformance to sound Human Resource Practices
  • Create a winning team culture and spirit.
  • Empower people.
  • Ensure planning of training and development for employees
  • Promote strategic development of employees.
  • Ensure that the Group Company Policy and Procedures are adhered to.
  • Approve the appointment of new staff members subject to the approval’s framework.
  • Maintain discipline.
  • Ensure lean and effective infrastructure.
  • Approve the dismissal of staff.
  • Implement retrenchments when necessary.
  • Manage performance of key staff and Middle Management
  • Motivate annual salary increases and performance bonuses.
  • Approve the training of staff against an agreed plan and budget.

Quality and Safety

  • To ensure the maintenance of quality and safety standards
  • Manage the maintenance of ISO standards and rating within the Region.
  • Initiate corrective action when necessary.
  • Responsible for the safety of staff, assets, and property
  • Ensure legal compliance with authorities.

Workshop and Warehouse

  • To ensure conformance to workshop and warehouse quality standards
  • Ensure workshop quality and workshop and warehouse processes are adhered to.
  • Ensure workshop Labour recoveries are managed within defined parameters.
  • Optimise stock management.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Degree/ Higher Diploma in Sales/Marketing, Technical or Financial Disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar environment and role.
  • Ability to function in multidisciplinary and time driven environment.
